The Modern Day Music of Jay Gatsby

“If personality is an unbroken series of successful gestures, then there was something gorgeous about him, some heightened sensitivity to the promises of life, as if he were related to one of those intricate machines that register earthquakes ten thousand miles away. The responsiveness had nothing to do with the flabby impressionability that is dignified under the name of the “creative temperament” — it was an extraordinary gift for hope, a romantic readiness such as I have never found in any other person and which is not likely I shall ever find again. No — Gatsby turned out all right at the end; it is what preyed on Gatsby, what foul dust floated in the wake of his dreams that temporarily closed out my interest in the abortive sorrows and short-winded elations of men.”
– Nick Carraway in The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald

Are you excited for the new Great Gatsby movie? Me too. It’s been a long time since I’ve anticipated a movie like this and I’m really looking forward to the Baz Luhrmann adaptation. Until it’s released (May 10th!) let’s listen to the soundtrack, which I’m equally excited about. It was released on NPR yesterday (click here) and features The XX, Florence + the Machine, Lana Del Ray, will.i.am, Emeli Sande, Gotye, Jack White, and other wonderfulness (like an Amy Winehouse cover by Beyonce and Andre 3000!!).

Good job Jay Z. My ears will be very happy this weekend.

Currently: wearing red nail polish and happy it’s Friday

Picture That

Lately when I’ve sat down to write a blog, I’ve not been doing so well with stringing words together the way I like. So today I thought I’d bring you some pictures instead (aka collages I make while watching All Star Celebrity Apprentice and other equally illustrious television programs). If you’re in need of something fun to do on one of these rainy April days, I highly suggest destroying some magazines while you’re stuck inside.

Currently: re-reading Great Gatsby in prep for the upcoming movie. Also, speaking of movies, go see Jurassic Park 3D. Totally worth it.

Pretty Girl

This weekend I started putting together some new playlists. I spent a lot of time walking around my neighborhood and liberty park this week so I had some time to just listen to music which is always nice; I tend to take my time with music, so it can be a long process haha. I added this song to my  Grrrrl Power playlist (inspired by a viewing of First Wives Club with my friend Karen) and  I really think you should listen to it tomorrow to start your week right (How am I just listening to this? It’s so catchy…).

Currently: had a great conference weekend (with lots of time spent on my latest diy crafty type project) and am now counting down the days until my sister is stateside again.
