From Sugar Land to Sugar House

Or the story of how I lured my family away from Texas to visit me :)

My parents were able to drop by for a weekend recently to see me and Gabby. It started with wonderful anticipation of the Utah weather to come:

My Dad will probably never leave Texas.

My Dad will probably never leave Texas.

I tried my best to show them some good SLC eats, including Evas and Faustinas:

And they loved it! But who wouldn’t love Evas?

While in Evas we spent way too long trying to coordinate a window frame picture (as you can see Dad never made it into his spot).

Sadly Gab was not able to join us for this portion of the day because of some dumb thing called “work.”

Good eats also included Red Iguana. And Sopapillas. Yum.

We saw two of our favorite April birthday girls: Mary and Camie.

IMG_4167One night my Mom and I managed to squeeze in a late night stroll at the Capital [People with long distance family members know long, meandering  conversations in person are just better than long, meandering conversations via telephone. Even if it means you don’t multitask.].

And last, but not least, we also spent a lot of time watching this:

All in all it was a good weekend. The days flew by too quickly, but I was so grateful for every single one.

Shenanigans not pictured included: us taking full advantage of the hotel hot tub, pizza night, everyone helping me get things done (I am very lucky), Sunday driving, liberty park, and a girls’ night shopping trip.

Currently: Experiencing a lot of those spring showers people like to rhyme about.

Currently: Enjoying a laid back weekend after a great Fourth of July that included poolside popsicles, lots of watermelon, and thunderstorms!

Weekending

How did I weekend this weekend?

Well I accidentally stumbled into the latest SLC spot, Granary Row

IMG_2222

You can tell they are trying really hard to make this a place where all the cool kids will want to go.

IMG_2217

But I think it’s working.

IMG_2218

The containers are shops and at the end you can see all the food trucks gathered there.

At least I very much enjoyed it. Can’t speak for the cool kids of course ;)

IMG_2240

Everything is colorful!

IMG_2223

And mobile.

IMG_2221

Cute little bows? Headbands? Fun prints? I love being the target demographic.

Plus they grow plants in kid pools. Which is almost fun enough that it doesn’t remind me of how I’m such a plant killer lately. The community garden stuff seems good (Probably because I’m in no way the primary caretaker… I’ve only been by once this month, but I’m trying to remedy this.) , but the work plants are very much struggling.

I mean look at this yummy meal I had courtesy of Off the Grid. Have I mentioned I’m a sucker for food trucks? And that they are half the attraction here? On Saturday some of the truck’s I saw included the Grilled Cheese Truck, a hot/frozen chocolate truck, Mom’s, the Little Blue Bistro, and a few taco trucks.

This was the Awesome Con Queso (A sandwich with waffles as bread!) with a side of smashed potato. So. Good.

I can’t wait to go when there is some entertainment present.

Look at all that stage. Just waiting.

And on a completely non-granary note, I also saw Much Ado About Nothing. It was pretty entertaining (If you’re a Joss Whedon fan you’ll be very happy with the cast).

Currently: enjoying Master Chef
