Favorite Things

I thought I would document a few of my favorite things from the last couple of months before March officially ended:

Food Adventures. There are few things I love more than discovering a good restaurant. Some of my recent adventures were Alamexo, Chopfuku, and Purgatory. I love good sushi and Chopfuku didn’t disappoint. I can’t wait to try more of their rolls.

This is their UK roll. It has snow crab, avocado, tuna, DEEP FRIED BACON, salmon, white fish, jalapeno, tobiko, lemon, served with spicy mayo, and eel sauce.

Purgatory is a bar/restaurant that features Asian fusion food. We tried the K-pop fries, curry donut, Soul burger, and a cauliflower wrap. The fries were especially delicious.

The K-pop fries featuring: Korean short ribs/ carmelized kimchi/gochujuan mayo/ herbs/crema

Not pictured: My delicious Alamexo queso, fish tacos, and churro. To top it off we ended up sitting right next to the owner, who was very nice. Definitely would go again!

Tennis. The true sign of spring this year for me was not the weather [which insists on being fickle], but the reappearance of concerts after their winter hibernation. I saw Tennis for the second time and checked out the State Room for the first time [and LOVED it – New top venue choice].

Penthouse Upgrade. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be surrounded by the whisper soft embrace of a heavenly cloud? Wonder no further. It’s what lying on these pillow loungers is like. I stumbled across these on Amazon and they are one of the best purchases I have ever made. They have changed our movie nights forever.

IMG_9600

These pillow loungers are so beloved and life changing that Courtney felt she had no other option than to quit her office job and now she spends all her time promoting them. She is currently completing an internship under the Price is Right showcase models and will then be taking her efforts abroad so that no one anywhere in the world will be without the option of comfortable pillow based lounge options.

Ziggy. My sister and her husband added a puppy to their life and I’m sort of obsessed. Here are some basic facts about Ziggy: He is a Shih Tzu, he is named after David Bowie’s alter ego Ziggy Stardust, and he is afraid of hula hoops. I puppy-sat him for one weekend and couldn’t get enough.

Favorite Things

Here are some of my favorite things lately:

Festival and Fair things

September brings many events. And many foods.

img_6906

Greek Festival

img_6901

Close up of the Greek pastries.

img_7001

Utah State Fair! I recommend the sprinkle dipped ice cream cone or the fried Oreos.

Gilmore Girl things

For the 16th anniversary of Gilmore Girls and in anticipation of the upcoming revival, 200 coffee shops around the country turned into Luke’s Diner for the day. There were two such “diners” in Salt Lake. I missed out on the merch, but I did get to see the sign. The shop was also playing Gilmore Girl episodes on a projector.

img_7397

Stranger Things

If you haven’t watched Stranger Things yet it deserves some screen time. Some friends of mine had a Stranger Things party and it was a-mah-zing. I loved seeing everyone’s costumes. We even had a friend make a great demogorgon mask.

img_3148

Not pictured: Short hair eleven, demogorgon, Will’s house, and Toothless.

img_7604

Barb stole the show [typical]. My “Barb” was more of an homage to what Barb would wear in present time.

img_2819

SERIOUS BARB FACES. DON’T UNDERSTIMATE A BARB.

Dine O’ Round things

If you haven’t heard of Dine O’ Round it’s basically one time a year where the restaurants of downtown Salt Lake City do special deals/meals. It lasts about two weeks, which trust me, is enough time to do some serious damage.

img_6948

Dine O’ Round led me to some new places this year, including Taco Taco.

img_6943

Obsessed with this Taco Taco decor.

img_7283

I also visited an old favorite, Gourmandise.

Musical things

This was a great show! Now I’m extra-excited for the live action movie to come out.

img_7297

These were also great [albeit very different] musical shows.

img_7211

Tegan and Sara! I love them. I’m glad I got to see them [again]. Caity has been with me to witness the magic both times!

img_7241

Couldn’t leave Tegan and Sara without this jacket. I mean, c’mon.

Cute animal things

Cute animals are kind of a given when it comes to things people love. However, even if you think you’ve seen it all, I recommend you look at this prissy_pig on instagram. These tiny little pigs in pajamas KILL ME. YOU’RE WELCOME.

img_7676

Ice cream things

I’m obsessed with this flat, Roll With It Creamery ice cream. The only problem is I have to go to Provo to get it.

Fall color things

Finally, what kind of list would this be if I didn’t talk about the colors changing? One of the best parts of living in Utah is experiencing fall here.

Currently: Getting in the October mood with some Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Hope you’re having a good fall, full of your own favorite things.

How to win friends and influence people

How to win friends and influence people:

Step 1: Team up with a nice slice of pepperoni pizza

img_5282

gab

Step 2: Take your pizza to fun and exotic locals. Console said pizza when the dolphin upstages him.

The pool! The lake! Giant Slip n’ Slides! Pretty much the only place my floats didn’t accompany me this summer was Seven Peaks [Although it would have been amusing to see a pizza float in the middle of the wave pool].

At Slide the City we had a number of floats with us and while my pizza definitely got reactions, the dolphin float stole the show. A guy came over and offered to pay us to ride the dolphin down the slide while full on monologuing about his love of the dolphin. We leant him Herbert [said dolphin] and thankfully he was returned to us safe and sound despite the dolphin obsessed stranger.

Me sliding with my pizza [The guy working there asked me if this was a pizza delivery, get it???] at Slide the City in downtown  Salt Lake City [it covered three blocks].

Step 3: Assemble a squad of likeminded friends

What makes a float day better? More floats, of course. Not all of these are mine, but I enjoyed taking them out for a spin.

img_4922

Lifehack: If you have a large amount of floats to inflate, but only a $3 plastic pump to blow them up, Gilmore Girls help pass the time. Also maybe eventually buy a second electric pump.

Stampede.

img_6173

Gabby moved to a place with a pool and it definitely changed my summer for the better.

img_6198

Gabby and I living our best summer lives.

img_5852

We had a lovely ward “campout” that ended with a great lake day. Please note Herbert is front and center.

Step 4: Challenge yourself

While Herbert is great for giant slip n slides, it’s actually very hard to use this dolphin as a float [There are some serious balance issues involved … annnd the float may have been designed for children]. But the view is worth it.

img_5630

Herbert in his [almost] natural habitat.

img_5283

“Have floats, will travel” has it’s obstacles.

img_5259-1

When you’re exerting yourself this much you gotta stay hydrated. My drink of choice: the diet pepperlada.

Step 5: Repeat

I think the float addiction may be permanent and it’s definitely contagious. I’ll keep you updated on next summer.

img_6029

NOT PICTURED: The latest addition to the fam, a pretzel float. I snagged this baby during an end of summer sale and managed to get in one swim with it at the ward pool party. It has three holes so it’s perfect for floating with friends.

Currently: Excited for the next season of Project Runway to start!
